Composition of Lipopeptides
Aug 20, 2025| Lipopeptides are amphiphilic compounds composed of fatty acid chains and peptide chains. Their chemical structure features both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. The following are their specific components:
Fatty acid chain
Usually a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon chain, ranging in length from C₁₂ to C₁₈. For example, the fatty acid chain of daptomycin is a decanoyl group (C₁₀).
Peptide chain
Composed of 4-10 amino acid residues, for example, the peptide chain of daptomycin contains 13 amino acid residues, forming a cyclic or linear structure. Cyclic lipopeptides, such as lichenin and iturin, have peptide chains linked end to end to form a closed ring; linear lipopeptides, such as spirochetin, are arranged linearly.
Chemical Bonding
The fatty acid chain and peptide chain are linked by amide bonds (-NH-CO-) or ester bonds (-CO-O-), forming an asymmetric amphiphilic structure.
Biosynthetic raw materials
Mainly derived from microbial metabolites, such as fermentation products of strains such as Bacillus subtilis and Neurospora amethystifer.
